Actor In The Spotlight: Bukky Thomas.

"Actors are paid peanuts in Nollywood and this is really annoying-Bukky
With her impeccable diction and excellent interpersonal relations skill, it’s not surprising when you get to know that she is armed with an MBA in Marketing though the mud of Nollywood snatched her away from the cosy offices of the corporate world; Bukky Thomas is one Actor that her craft is unquestionable in the industry. She spoke to me on varied issues including her sordid experience with a faggot of a director on sex-for-roles. Enjoy.

Can we meet you?
BUKKY: My name is Bukky Thomas. I'm an actor and from Lagos state. I hold an MBA marketing and first degree in philosophy & religion from the Lagos state university. I have an amiable personality, kind hearted & a Christian.

How long have you being acting and how is the journey so far?
BUKKY: In & out, its five years but it's been glorious though the hitches of no call backs at times but now it's from glory unto glory. I will say am on my way to the top.

"In and Out? What necessitated such?
BUKKY: I was working in a furniture firm
As a marketing manager. I couldn't just opt out like that.

What have you achieved so far in nollywood?
BUUKKY: A lot. I play the character of Alali Brown in "Tinsel" Mrs Folorunsho in "Karma" which airs on TVC every Sunday, Mama Fola, in "Road to Stardom" Lekki Wives" "Abike" Facade" which airs on African magic, etc
With a MBA to your belt, what made you choose acting as a profession?
BUKKY: Acting is my passion. I have tasted a lot before settling for Nollywood. I wasn't contented with the corporate thing.

Nollywood being a very busy industry, how do you combine this with managing the home?
BUKKY: I plan my time most times but I have a loving Mum and a sweet sister who take care of my son, as a single mum, it's not being easy though but my family are always there for me even when am on location.

What would you change in the industry if given all the powers?
BUKKY: Artists fee. Actors are paid peanuts in Nollywood and this is really annoying.

What gives you age over your contemporaries?
BUKKY: The edge I have is my diction and carriage. It makes me stand out. Then my age, not reducing my age gives me some outstanding roles.
Some section of the public believe actresses are flirts, what do you think?
BUKKY: That's not true. You know being nice to guys or interpreting your roles perfectly doesn’t mean affection or love exist between those people. Flirting is in every field, you will be surprise that there are more disciplined & determine actress than in other profession.

Sex-for-roles: does it really exist or it’s a myth?
BUKKY: Who won't bulge at any offers because of a role? That's not to say there aren't some that are naive to get to the top by all means, but I bet to say they are few. Sex-for-roles does exist, it’s not a myth but the style is different now. You pay off the sex

When was the last time you encountered such and how did you handle it
BUKKY: Last year, i went for an audition and I got a call back. I got a full script, only to get home and by 9pm I got a call to come and see the director. I asked, for what? And he was bold enough to tell me such (demanded sex), I told him it's late and I can't do such. The movie was shot and I was told a friend of mine performed the role earlier allotted to me. I called the director to come pick his script and he will see me at the top. I bless God; he sees my face now on the TV and movies. God is faithful.

What is your greatest fear in life?
BUKKY: Not fulfilling my vision

What or who inspires you?
BUKKY: A lot of things inspire me and I have mentors. My main mentor is Bishop Mike Okonkwo, he tells me "you are the best God has made to make the difference, I will see you at the top"

When you are not on locations, how do you unwind?
BUKKY: I hang out with my friends; most especially I stay indoors at home to spend time with my son.

What turns you off in people?
BUKKY: Attitude.

Your favorite meal?
BUKKY: Pounded yam and efo Riro.

Your most valuable possession?
BUKKY: My assets, myself.

Final words to fellow actors and your fans?
BUKKY: I will see my fellow actors at the top. My fans , keep praying for me to still be making impact in your life and community.
